Friday Random 10 #8: Floods, Fascists and Fraternity

So, it's pretty simple. On most modern day musical doohickeys, there seems to be a randomizing function, which causes the music to play in a seemingly uneven fashion. Whether this is caused by some sort of demon of chaos, or some complex integral programming technique, I don;t know. Yet, each week I offer my sacrifice to the gods or devils of randomness and offer up these 10 songs...

1. Army Guy by Poor Old Lu (Sin LP)

“…Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown….” (Seriously, these are the only lyrics I can figure out, but this song is available on the Poor Old Lu website, as an MP3, so if you give it a listen, maybe you can tell me what the lyrics are.)

2. (Don’t You Go To) Goleta by Camper Van Beethoven (I & II)

“I've been there and I've seen the styles they wear
Their haircuts down to their clean white shoes
Don't you know baby, that it's all a facade, ya know
Intelligence is not something you should avoid”

3. Dirty Hands by The Galactic Cowboys (Let It Go)

“I knew a man with dirty hands, he blamed it all on me. He tried to sue my point of view, 'Cause he wants it all for free.”

4. A Higher Place by Tom Petty (Wildflowers)

“I remember walking with her in town. Her hair was in the wind. I gave her my best kiss, she gave it back again.”

5. Miller’s Angels by The Counting Crows (Recovering the Satellites)

“Miller's angels in black and white welcome everyone in. Children dreaming of wrong and right wrapped in grace and in sin.”

6. Baby, Baby by The Swirling Eddies (Sacred Cows) (yes, this is The Swirling Eddies cover of the “classic” Amy Grant song.)

“Baby, baby, no muscle man could sever. My love for you is true and it will never stop for a minute…”

7. Proving Ground by Vigilantes of Love (To the Roof of the Sky)

“…well I remember the summer, shimmer in the laughter, we were lying to each other about what we were after…”

8. Jack-ass by Beck (Odelay)

“When I wake up someone will sweep up my lazy bones and we will rise in the cool of the evening. I remember the way that you smiled when the gravity shackles were wild and something is vacant when I think it's all beginning.”

9. Wise Acres by Daniel Amos (MotorCycle)
“Says Mayor Smart Alex "There's a meeting in the hall" (hear ye, hear ye, hear ye!) for the Very Wise Guys and the Very Wise Girls conditioned to live in their Wise Acre world.”

10 Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits (Money For Nothing)

“There's so many different worlds, so many different suns and we have just one world but we live in different ones…”

Websites that offer free MP3's for the masses. 1, 2, 3, and 5. May I suggest hiting up The Galactic Cowboy's website for a rocking cover of Petra's classic "Not of this World."
